Marsh Lane Viaduct was opened in 1869 to extend the railway line between Marsh Lane station and the new Leeds City station. The viaduct was constructed as part of this rail line extension.

In 2015 a major renovation project by the main contractors began to strengthen the brick built archway structure.

Holemasters aided in this renovation project by drilling 60 horizontal holes to diameters of 117/132/147 mm to a depth of 9.5 metres for the installation of tie rod anchors. With the works being at high level mobile elevating work platforms and scaffolding were used.
